Common discomforts of pregnancy

Understanding it

Why pregnancy can hurt

As your baby grows, your centre of gravity shifts and your posture changes. The hormone relaxin softens your ligaments to prepare for birth, which can make the pelvis and lower back less stable.

Massage and acupuncture are commonly used during pregnancy when they are performed by a trained practitioner. Kim adapts every treatment to your stage of pregnancy, uses side-lying positions with pillows, and avoids points and techniques that are not suitable in pregnancy.

The Chinese medicine view

Nourishing two

"A calm mother, a calm pregnancy."

In Chinese medicine, pregnancy asks a lot of the body's Blood and Qi. Prenatal care focuses on nourishing and calming, rather than strong treatment.

Kim combines what she knows as a registered massage therapist with Chinese medicine, to relieve discomfort and help you rest.

Questions

Before you book

From when can I come?

You can book at any stage of pregnancy. Some women prefer to wait until after the first trimester for massage. Kim will discuss what suits you.

Are massage and acupuncture safe in pregnancy?

They are commonly used during pregnancy when performed by a trained practitioner. Kim adapts every treatment to your stage of pregnancy. Tell her you are pregnant when you book, and keep your midwife or doctor informed.

Can I have massage and acupuncture in the same visit?

Yes. Kim is both a registered massage therapist and an acupuncturist, so she can combine both in one session.

Is it covered by insurance?

Massage therapy and acupuncture are often covered by extended health plans, and we offer direct billing with most insurers. Check your plan before your visit.
