Meet Kim

Hi, I'm Kim Laurent.

"Women are too often told their symptoms are just normal. I'm here to listen, and to help."

I'm an acupuncturist and registered massage therapist. I created Women Matter inside Strong Therapy for one reason: so women in Calgary have a place where their cycle, their fertility, their pregnancy and their menopause are taken seriously.

I combine Chinese medicine (acupuncture, herbal support, nutrition, gentle movement) with a calm, unrushed approach, and I always work alongside your doctor or midwife.

In her words

“After just the two first sessions, my life changed.”

“The pain is gone, my nights are restful again, I was able to get back to the gym, and my mood followed. I got my life back.”

I came to Kim skeptical, and honestly not excited about acupuncture at all, because of an unpleasant experience in the past. I mainly came for advice on herbs that might help me.

I had been living with endometriosis for many years. Even though I had been eating anti-inflammatory for several years, I was in pain every single day: constant lower back pain that woke me up several times a night, sore knees, headaches, and brain fog, among other symptoms. All of it wore on my mood. I had already tried everything, and I told myself I had nothing left to lose.

After just the two first sessions, my life changed. Yes, two. It’s the honest truth.

I don’t like needles, but Kim is so gentle that you feel them very little, if at all. My hesitation quickly turned into trust, and into something I had stopped hoping for: my symptoms disappeared. Not improved, disappeared. The pain is gone, my nights are restful again, I was able to get back to the gym, and my mood followed. I got my life back.

I’m continuing treatments to consolidate the results. My only regret is not going sooner.

I recommend Kim without any hesitation, with complete sincerity and real gratitude for her knowledge, her welcoming approach, her gentleness and her work. Thank you, Kim.

One client’s experience. Results vary from person to person.

Questions

Before you book

Is it covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans cover acupuncture. We offer direct billing with most major insurers. Check your plan's coverage before your visit.

Do I need a diagnosis to book?

No. You can book with a diagnosis, while you wait for one, or simply because something does not feel right. Kim works alongside your doctor, not instead of them.

Should I book the program or a single session?

The 12-week program suits ongoing cycle issues such as painful periods, endometriosis, PCOS or PMS. Single sessions suit specific needs, such as pregnancy discomfort or postpartum recovery. Not sure? Start with the free 15-minute call.

Are acupuncture and massage safe during pregnancy?

Acupuncture and massage are commonly used during pregnancy when performed by a trained practitioner. As an acupuncturist and registered massage therapist, Kim combines both and adapts every treatment to your stage of pregnancy, with comfortable side-lying positioning. Tell her you are pregnant when you book, and keep your midwife or doctor informed.

Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles are very fine, about the thickness of a hair. Most people feel a light tingle or heaviness, and many fall asleep on the table.

You deserve to be heard.
