Signs many women with PCOS know well

Understanding it

What PCOS is

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal condition: it affects an estimated 8 to 13% of women of reproductive age, according to the World Health Organization. Many do not know they have it.

A doctor diagnoses PCOS, usually when two of three signs are present: irregular ovulation, higher levels of androgens ("male" hormones), and many small follicles on the ovaries on an ultrasound. Insulin resistance is common, which is why food, movement and sleep matter so much.

PCOS also has long-term effects on blood sugar and heart health, so regular follow-up with your doctor is important.

The Chinese medicine view

Looking at the whole pattern

"Treat the root, not only the branches."

Chinese medicine does not see PCOS as one single pattern. It is often described as a weakness of the Spleen and Kidney systems, with "Dampness" that slows things down, and sometimes stagnation linked to stress.

That is why two women with PCOS can receive very different treatments. Kim looks at your cycle, digestion, energy, sleep and stress to build your plan.

Yes. Tell Kim about all your medication so she can plan around it. Never stop a prescribed treatment without your doctor.
